The CCEE Data Academy was launched to strengthen how data is used in practice across California’s local educational agencies (LEAs). Through role-aligned courses and applied learning experiences, the Academy supports educators in building the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to engage with data more intentionally in their day-to-day work. Grounded in real challenges from schools and districts, the Academy helps participants connect learning to practice and build stronger conditions for improvement over time.
Across California, expectations for how data is used have expanded. While tools like the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) are intended to support continuous improvement, many LEAs have historically approached data use through a more compliance-driven lens. As those expectations have grown, districts are increasingly being asked to use data not only to report, but to monitor progress, inform decisions, and adjust practice in real time.
Use data as a tool for learning and improvement, not just reporting
Strengthen shared responsibility for using data proactively at every level of the system
Leverage data to shape discussions, inform decisions, and drive next steps
Establish routines that support ongoing reflection and adjustment
An evolving effort to strengthen data practices across California.
2024-25
The Data Academy launched as a pilot initiative with two courses: Data Literacy for data analysts and Data Leadership for district leaders.
2025-26
Building on lessons from the pilot year, the Academy added Data Inquiry, a course designed for school site leaders.
2026-27
Looking Forward. In response to growing interest statewide, the Academy is exploring expanded pathways for county participation while continuing to refine and strengthen its course offerings.
