Understanding and unpacking disparities in engagement data.
With the question, “Why are we seeing lower rates of engagement in school activities and with academic resources among Black students and their families?” the PBVUSD team has focused its first year in the Network on the following strategies:
Deepening data analysis: We are further disaggregating our data to better understand where the greatest disparities in access and engagement exist.
Gathering student and family input: We are creating stronger opportunities to collect feedback from students and families to help inform instructional planning and supports.
Increased sense of belonging for our African American students and families within our district community
Improved engagement rates for African American students and families within our system
We joined the African American Student Success Network (AASSN) in Fall 2025 to better understand the disparities in engagement we were seeing among our African American students and their families and to identify strategies for strengthening connection, participation, and support across our system.
