Utilize trainings and promote collaboration to create a standardized process for schools to support student goal-setting, encourage student ownership, and improve student outcomes
In 2024-25 (Sustainability Phase), Taft City SD will be utilizing trainings and promoting collaboration to create a standardized process for schools to support student goal-setting, encourage student ownership, and improve student outcomes.
Support teacher practice in providing timely English Language Arts interventions, using a comprehensive MTSS data framework to accelerate student learning
Establish a system to engage students in academic goal-setting, including setting individualized academic goals and tracking their progress
Provide professional development for Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSAs) and teachers in identifying interventions, creating a student identification process, and supporting student goal-setting
Partner with TOSAs to develop resources and provide professional development to support teachers in the student goal-setting process, including the facilitation of weekly Data Chats
Create an intervention data framework that incorporates teacher and administrator feedback to support the entry/exit of students who are receiving interventions
Teacher Survey – Taft City created and administered a teacher survey on Google Forms with the following questions to better understand teacher experiences with MTSS strategies as well as their perspectives on the student academic growth seen during SY 2022-2023.
TCSD conducted a detailed teacher survey to understand perspectives and experiences with MTSS and data use in instruction. The results were analyzed collaboratively with school site principals and Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSAs), which revealed the effectiveness of iReady and identified a lack of a data framework. This critical insight informed their work throughout the year, leading to substantial improvements in interventions and positively impacting student outcomes by establishing a process for analyzing data to inform decisions, including the decision to improve Tier 1 supports in TCSD
Wordcloud of the responses to survey question, "Describe key factors you believe contributed to student growth in 2022-2023"
The district collected and analyzed iReady ELA and math data, revealing the effectiveness of interventions and the need for stronger Tier 1 supports. This analysis informed their decision to provide professional development on the Science of Reading from CORE, aiming to enhance foundational reading instruction. Data was compared from beginning-of-year (BOY), middle-of-year (MOY), and end-of-year (EOY) at each elementary school site.
